Optimization of the Cognitive Processes in a Virtual Classroom: A Multi-objective Integer Linear Programming Approach

A fundamental problem in the design of a classroom is to identify what characteristics it should have order optimize learning. This complex because learning construct related several cognitive processes. The aim this study maximize learning, represented by processes attention, memory, and preference, depending on six parameters: height, width, color hue, saturation, temperature, illuminance. Multi-objective integer linear programming with three objective functions 56 binary variables was used solve optimization problem. Virtual reality tools were gather data; novel software create variations virtual classrooms for sample 112 students. Using an interactive method, more than 4700 problems optimally solved obtain 13 efficient solutions multi-objective problem, which allowed decision maker analyze all information make final choice. results showed that achieving best processing performance involves using different configurations. use approach interesting human behavioral studies, important consider judgement expert decisions.
